If you are having problems connecting to our FTP servers, please try the following:

1) Toggle your passive FTP switch. Either enable or disable it and try again.

2) Turn off any software based firewalls on your system and try again. This includes the built-in Windows and Mac firewall.

3) Turn off any software based virus scanners on your system and try again.

4) If you are using a Mac, go to System Preferences, Sharing and enable FTP Access.

5) Other causes of this issue is personal hardware routers (Linksys, Netgear) with bad firmware. Make sure your router has the latest firmware installed (especially if you use a Linksys router).

You may also want to try using a different FTP client. Also try connecting to the FTP server by attaching your computer directly to your DSL or cable modem without using any hardware based firewalls.

If you still have problems, then please provide us with the name and version of the FTP client you are using. Please also provide us with the WAN IP address you use to connect from. If you do not know your WAN IP address, visit http://www.ipchicken.com/. Your WAN IP address will be displayed in large blue numbers.

In order for Atlantis International to correctly resolve your domain name to the IP address of your hosting service, your domain name record must contain the following name server information:

ns1.atlantis-intl.com
dns2.atlantis-intl.com

Normally the above information is sufficient information for most registrar systems. Some registrars may require that you also supply the associated IP addresses associated with each nameserver as well. In this case the information below should be used.

Primary Server Hostname: ns1.atlantis-intl.com
Primary Netaddress: 206.135.15.98

Secondary Server Hostname: dns2.atlantis-intl.com
Secondary Netaddress: 206.135.15.46

Additionally, including Atlantiis International as the technical and zone contact for your domain may provide additional security and management capabilities. Network Solution customers may use our NIC handle:

Technical Contact NIC: LN61

Non-Network Solution customers should the following Technical Contact information:

Last Name: DNS Hostmaster

Some Internet Service Providers do not allow you to use external SMTP E-mail servers to send outbound mail. In order to send outbound SMTP E-mail, you will need to configure your E-mail client to use your ISP's SMTP server and not mail.atlantisnet.com.

Below are some common SMTP servers used by major ISPs:

EarthLink (details):
mail.earthlink.net
smtp.earthlink.net
smtpauth.earthlink.net *

MSN (details):
smtp.email.msn.com *

Cox (details):
smtp.west.cox.net

SBC (details):
smtp.sbcglobal.net

SBC Yahoo (details):
smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com *

Bell South (details):
mail.bellsouth.net

DSLExtreme (details):
smtp.dslextreme.com

* These servers require authenticated SMTP using the user name and password assigned to you by your ISP.

Notice: We have recently implemented a workaround for the sending of E-mail through our servers using ISPs that block TCP port 25. You can attempt this workaround by following the instructions here.

People Claim I am Sending them a Virus via Email

There are a number of viruses (Sobig, Klez, Nimda, Mydoom, BugBear, NetSky, etc.) that forge the sender's E-mail address (FROM address) so that they look like they are coming from a different person than the one that actually has the virus. In many cases, this forged E-mail address is yours.

These viruses are infecting the PC of someone you know, and this person has your E-mail address in their address book. What this virus does on an infected machine, is that it tries to spread itself by sending itself to everyone in their address book. It forges the "FROM:" address by picking a random address from the address book (which may be your E-mail address!). So others get E-mail sent to them with your name on it (but you didn't send it, your "friends" infected system sent the mail out). So that's why other systems then reject the mail and bounce it back to you or the recipient claims you sent them a virus.

How to get rid of this?

Long Term:
All people on the Internet must learn to keep their systems up to date, install security patches as needed, and use up to date anti-virus software. Also many ISPs, including Atlantis International, no longer bounce back messages from viruses, because of the high likelihood that the From: address was forged.

For more information visit:

The header in an E-mail provides vital information about who sent a particular message, and is very difficult to forge. This is essential for us to do a full investigation into reports of abuse. How you view a full header depends on the E-mail program that you use:

Windows:

Outlook Express

Double click to open the message.

Under the File menu, select Properties.

Click on the Details tab.

The Internet headers will appear; copy and paste into the original E-mail.

Outlook 98, 2000, 2002 (XP) and 2003

Double click to open the message.

Under the View menu, select Options.
